The Cabinet of Curiosities
The Cabinet of Curiosities began as a sculptural exploration of our world’s natural botanical and mycological forms, curating microcosms of the growth of numerous exotic species from across the world. I situated these sculptures within an upcycled wooden cabinet, reminiscent of those created by the early scientists and philosophers exploring the oddities of our natural world, exhibited alongside other found alchemical items and detailed diagrams of their structure and information revolving around their taxonomy and native environments, using “Latinus Scientificus”, overly detailed scientific-Latin terminology to describe the works in an almost nonsensical and somewhat mystical fashion.
This body of work was later exhibited at Tillius, Home of the Unusual, on Pulteney Bridge as part of my Year2 Offsite Exhibition project.
