Fae Beings
I created these miniature sculptures as an initial exploration of worldbuilding, surrounding the folklore of the Fae. To me these works exist as a vessel of childlike wonder directed towards the magical realism and folk history of our natural world. This photography series depicts ‘the Shroom~Sprites’, fungal caricatures who exist between worlds, in the fae realm, similar to the mossy forest castle ruins in my mind’s eye, with its dilapidated walls letting leaf filtered sun rays scatter across its winding stairways and crumbled halls, with doorways opening to familiar places and unknown worlds waiting to be discovered. Alongside these characters is a visual narrative I created featuring ‘The Wandering Gnome’, my smallest sculpture; at only 2cm tall, his small stature allowed me to further delve into the microcosms of the natural world on a much more intimate level through the inquisitive shift in scale that photography provides a sculptural body of work.
